ONE of television’s top footy shows is kicking goals for children with cancer.

The Footy Show’sMy Room telethon airing tonight willfeature AFL greats, sports stars and celebrities raising money to find a cure for childhood cancer.

Last year the telethon raised $1 million and assisted with new projects at Monash Children’s Hospital including a clinical research fellowship program.

Monash Children’s Hospital Cancer Centre head Dr Peter Downie said research was the key to developing new ways to treat children with cancer.

“Our ultimate aim is to get to the point where the hope of a cure can be given to every parent and child, newly diagnosed with cancer,” Dr Downie said.

GTV9 Melbourne managing director Ian Paterson said the station was delighted to bring back the telethon this year.

“After the huge success last year, we are committed to doing everything we can to assist My Room in raising vital funds for this extraordinary cause,” Mr Paterson said.

He said My Room was a wonderful charity run by a dedicated group of volunteers.

“They need support to continue on their mission of research and care for children who are diagnosed with cancer every year.”

The My Room telethon will air at 7.30pm. Viewers can phone the donation line during the show.
