MANY take the chance to get away over the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

If you’ve been without phone or internet reception in one of Victoria’s holiday hot spots, we’ve got the major talking points from across Melbourne covered for you.

Few games were as close as Bundoora’s Northern Football League clash with Montmorency, the first time a stand-alone Division 1 fixture.

It looked like the fierce rivals were not going to be split in the final term, but a best-on-ground performance from Josh Grabowski helped get the Bulls home by the narrowest of margins 14.8 (92) to 13.13 (91).

South Morang, Banyule and Watsonia were the victors in Division 3, Scott Gumbleton and Adam Barclay sharing 14 goals in the Bears’ win over Heidelberg West.

In the Essendon District Football League,11 goals from star forward duo Patrick Rose and Dean Galea ensured Avondale Heights triumphed over Airport West by 39 points.

Jacana also downed East Sunbury in a low-scoring affair.

Bacchus Marsh and Darley were among the big winners in a round of hidings in the Ballarat Football League.

The Cobras were far too good for Sunbury, romping home by 75 points on the back of 10 goals from spearhead Peter Shepherd and six majors from Ben Peters.

Elsewhere, the Devils beat Melton by 102 and Redan accounted for Melton South with ease.

It had been a long time between drinks for Gisborne in the Bendigo Football League, but the Dogs may have got their season back on track after an upset win over Kangaroo Flat on Saturday.

The victory was just Gisborne’s second of the season, but the club is within two wins of a top-five spot.

At Kyneton, Ben Weightman and Mitch Scholard combined for 15 goals in a commanding win over Maryborough.

In the Eastern Football League, Balwyn accounted for Noble Park by 66 points.

The contest was surprisingly one-sided from the second term when the Tigers took control.

In the Yarra Valley Mountain District league, Taylor Gibson made the most of his switch forward in Woori Yallock’s 36-point win over Warburton Millgrove, booting seven majors.

Woodend-Hesket was the story of the Riddell District Football League, scoring its first win of 2015 in convincing fashion over Rockbank.

The Hawks won by 52 points, while Broadford, Melton Centrals, Rupertswood, Romsey and Diggers Rest were also on the winners’ list.
