Trinity slips to second ahead of the VAFA finals

OLD Trinity Grammarians slipped to second place on the Premier ladder after losing to University Blues in the final round of the home-and-away season.

After trailing by 30 points at half time, Old Trinity fell just short of the Blues, going down 7.7 (49) to 6.12 (48).

Alex Heuston was the only multiple goal scorer for Old Trinity, kicking two majors.

Luther Juric starred in the loss while Benjamin Howell and Kris Spassopoulos also impressed.

Old Trinity will take on St Bernards in the second semi-final this week after securing the double chance.

Old Carey finished their Premier season with a loss, going down to minor premiers St Bernards, 18.10 (118) to 9.10 (64).

Joel Rice kicked three goals in the loss, while Julian Rowe and James Gaff each added two majors to Old Carey’s total.

Colin Crowther starred for Old Carey, while Steven Freemantle and Ben Smithwick were also among the best players afield.

In Premier C, Marcellin Old Collegians had a surprise final round loss to Peninsula Old Boys, going down 12.17 (89) to 4.8 (32).

Robert Costanzo was Marcellin’s multiple goal scorer, booting two goals.

Matthew Molloy was best afield, while Simon Abrahams, Luke Considine and Nicholas Crosbie were also impressive.

Despite the loss Marcellin finished the season at the top of the ladder, securing the minor premiership.

Next week the Eagles will take on second-placed Monash Blues in the second semi-final with a spot in the grand final up for grabs.
