There’ll be a changing of the guard at Russell Lucas Oval next summer as Ringwood Cricket Club changes its coach.
But the transition will be a seamless one as the Rams replace one premiership mentor with another.
After nine years at the helm, a stint that saw the club win the premiership in the summer of 2014/15, Gavin Kellar has relinquished the role.
But taking up the mantle will be another club legend in Sean Flynn.
Kellar said the demands of a young family, three children Grade 2 and younger, made taking on a 10th season just too big an ask.
“Being a Premier Cricket coach is quite demanding,” he said. “It’s all the hours behind the scenes that catches up with you in the end.”
Kellar said the time was right for a change of coach and he departs the role with nothing but great memories.

“I’m just amazingly thankful for the time,” he said. “We’ve had some fantastic times on the field.
“When we started, it was all about finding young leaders with good values.
“The leadership growth in Tom Stray, who went on to become a premiership captain.
“Ian Holland, who’s played internationally.
“Zac Evans, I went and watched him play for the Renegades.
“I just want it (Ringwood) to continue to get better.”
There’s little doubting the credentials of the new coach at the helm.
Flynn is Ringwood’s First XI games record holder, with 244, and during his playing days carded 5856 runs and took 62 wickets. He captained Ringwood to the Premier Cricket flag in 2008/09.
More recently, Flynn spent 11 years at VSDCA club Bayswater.
Ringwood finished the season in 10th place, just six points adrift of the top eight and a finals berth.
