Cricket: Prahran’s Lachie Bangs scores century in Darwin

True Blues premiership player Lachie Bangs blasted a century to move up the run charts in the Darwin and District competition.

As he did for Prahran in its premiership season, Lachie Bangs is making a bang in the Darwin and District Cricket Association.

The fast-rising left-hander is one of a string of Victorian club players playing in the NT, and last weekend he hit the headlines with a rapid century for PINT.

The left-hander cracked 110 off 80 deliveries, with 6 sixes and 8 fours.

His team reached 7-349 off 93 overs in reply to 198.

Bangs shot to prominence last season for Prahran, blitzing centuries against Ringwood and Melbourne University.

In Darwin he’s playing in the same team as Ormond Sub-District pair Ben Speake and Blade Baxter.

Speake is having a good time of it with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 113 in a one-day match against Southern Districts.

Left-arm quickie Baxter has been prominent with the ball, counting returns of 4-41 off 10 overs and 5-57 off 22 overs in his tally of 20 wickets at 14.4.

He was also to the fore with the bat in the one-day final against Waratah, making 40 not out.

Tahs won the final, with Casey South Melbourne opener Ashley Chandrasinghe seeing them home with 59 not out.

Richmond prospect Yash Pednekar hit 25.

With T20 figures included, left-hander Chandrasinghe has crafted 269 runs at 67.3.

Last Saturday he made 85 off 186 balls as his team took a thrilling victory over Palmerston.

Pednekar contributed 70 off 130 deliveries, lifting his season tally to 175 at 35.

The Premier pair is playing with former Essendon wicketkeeper-batsman Isaac Conway, who is putting together a remarkably consistent season.

His scores of 38, 67, 64, 55, 81, 71, 64, 75no, 33, 46 and 20 have him at 603 runs at 60.3.

Little wonder he’s on top of the run chart.

Frankston Peninsula captain and allrounder Brodie Symons is turning out for Southern Districts and showing out with bat (224 runs at 37.3) and ball.

Richmond up-and-comer Shobit Singh is also with Districts. He hit 58 in a T20 fixture and three days later made 77 in a 50-over affair.

Ringwood wicketkeeper Josh Hartill is making good runs for Nightcliff (290 at 36.3) as he gains the experience of a NT stint.

A number of Victorian players are locked in for the inaugural Cricket 365 competition in Darwin.

It will feature 50-over and T20 cricket from June 20.
