Assumption College cricket teams are enjoying some sort of start to the summer.

Boys’ First XI captain Lucas Cavigan continued his monster start to the season with his second century in three games as his side got the better of Ivanhoe Grammar by four wickets on Saturday.

Cavigan posted 114 runs from 135 deliveries to take his season tally to over 300 runs. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the Victorian state representative so far after he was dismissed for a duck in the previous game.

His effort helped Assumption to reach its target in 42 overs after the home side posted 8-212 as Thisura Sooriyaaratchi top scored with 37 runs.

Joshua Mullavey-Clark and Hamish Mullavey-Clark were the pick of the bowlers with two wickets apiece.

Meanwhile in Assumption’s opening girls game of the AGSV/APS competition, Taylah M (114 runs) and Bridget S (95) performed strongly in a strong win over Wesley College.

In other AGSV First XI matches, Trinity Grammar was far too good for Yarra Valley Grammar, coming out on top by 60 runs.

Xavier Tapsell top scored for Trinity with 63 runs from 78 deliveries but it was another match winning display from captain Oliver Davidson which got his side across the line. He hit 37 off 32 before tormenting the opposition with the ball, taking 6-27 as Yarra Valley was all out for 161.

Jarred Holding was brave in defeat after hitting an impressive 89 before Davidson denied him a century.

Mentone Grammar powered its way to a 83-run win over Marcellin on the back of a strong bowler display.

After posting 184, the visitors tore through Marcellin’s middle order headlined by Lachlan Caldwell’s 3-25.

Peninsula Grammar was far too good for PEGS, recording a 193-run win as Ash Batty was cruelly denied a century after being dismissed for 98.

Matt Stone also scored a half-century as Peninsula posted 8-288.

PEGS was eventually all out for 95 with Oscar Scott-Waters taking 3-16 off seven overs.
