A man has been arrested after he allegedly trashed his apartment and the concierge desk at a Box Hill high-rise before fleeing shirtless with his cat.

Whitehorse detective Acting Sergeant Damien Vallas said the incident took place at 3am on Tuesday at the Sky One complex on Station St.

Acting Sgt Vallas said the 30-year-old man allegedly broke off the sprinklers in his eighth storey apartment, which led to flooding in the apartment and another one directly underneath on the seventh level.

Acting Sgt Vallas said the man allegedly also put clothes on his stove and set them on fire, and also destroyed furniture including his TV, fridge, dishwasher and cabinets.

The man then allegedly came down to the tower’s concierge desk and destroyed items including a TV, pot plants and a printer, before walking out of the building.

Acting Sgt Vallas said officers believed the man could have been affected by drugs and an ice pipe was allegedly later found in the apartment.

He said the damage bill from the man’s alleged behaviour was estimated at between $25,000 and $50,000.

Acting Sgt Vallas said officers arrested the man at an address in Herlihys Rd, Lower Templestowe at 1.30pm on Tuesday.

He was taken into custody at Doncaster police station for questioning and charged with three counts of alleged criminal damage.

Acting Sgt Vallas said the man was bailed to face the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court in February.
