A Doncaster East app developer has created a smartphone program for storing and managing receipts that eliminates the need for a print out.

Shahryar Faraji and a team of coders from the eastern suburbs have created an app to help shoppers organise all their receipts.

The app, 1receipt, allows shoppers to scan their phone at the checkout, to download the receipt to the app.

The receipts doesn’t need to be printed out and the app helps store it without the need for shoppers to receive a text or email from the retailer.

“Using 1receipt platform shoppers can easily and safely receive their shopping receipts by scanning an exclusive barcode on their phone at checkout point in participated stores,” Mr Faraji said.

1receipt allows you to store your receipts digitally without handing out your email address or phone number to retailers.

“Not only are shopping paper receipts a nightmare to organise, they are often discarded without a second thought, resulting in unnecessary and harmful wastage for our environment.”

The app also allows shoppers to receive their receipts from retailers without having out an email address or phone number.

“For some businesses you have to reveal your email address or phone number to get a receipt,” he said.

“Then you have to save them somewhere on your PC or phone which sometimes is harder than just asking for a paper receipt.”

Mr Faraji said existing apps which allowed shoppers to scan printed receipts didn’t go far enough.

“The other solution which is in the market is convert receipts to a digital form but obviously there is no merit in this solution — neither environmentally nor to a retailer’s cost reduction,” he said.
