A disgruntled ex-employee caused a Melbourne Bunnings to be cleared after he made multiple bomb threats following his sacking.

Jordan Cass, 26, was sentenced in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday to a 12-month community correction order after pleading guilty to making a bomb hoax.

Cass fired off more than 30 bomb threat alerts via an internal Bunnings messaging platform just before 1am on November 11 last year.

Cass claimed he had placed a bomb in aisle 24 at the Bunnings Nunawading site, the court was told.

Bunnings manager Michael Cunningham, who had sacked Cass on the spot the day before, woke to find the barrage of menacing messages.

Mr Cunningham called police who immediately sent units to clear the busy Whitehorse Rd store.

Police also rushed to Cass’ Camberwell home where they found the bomb hoaxer asleep in bed.

Cass told police he had been drinking heavily the night before and had “no recollection” of sending the messages.

Cass said he was advised by a doctor not to drink heavily after receiving an antibiotic injection the morning he was sacked.

The rascal told investigators the only thing he remembered was being out drinking with friends and then being woken by police.

Police and Mr Cunningham entered the Bunnings after the store had been cleared and investigators quizzed Cass.

No bomb was located.

Cass accepted he must’ve sent the bomb threats because only he had access to his phone.

The defence submitted Cass should only cop a fine for his antics but Magistrate Michael Smith said the offending was “very serious”.

Cass, who was already on a community order for driving offences, was also ordered to undertake treatment for alcohol and drug use.
