RACIST posters targeting Chinese students have been plastered across Monash University.

Several posters in Chinese were taped to bollards at the Clayton campus which were believed to have said: “This is a no-go zone for the Chinese and if you step in then you will be deported.”

The posters, which have the Monash University and Monash Student Association logo on them, had angered university groups and students.

Monash Student Association Clayton president Matilda Grey said she was disgusted by the posters and stressed they were not endorsed by their group.

“We are not affiliated in any way with these posters that blatantly promote hate speech towards Chinese students,” Ms Grey said.

She said Chinese students had expressed their concerns to the group.

“A lot of students were horrified after seeing these posters across campus. We do not stand for this behaviour and we are completely appalled.”

Ms Grey said campus security was investigating the incident.

“We are working alongside security and they are looking into security footage at this stage.”

“We are incredibly upset by the whole incident and we extend our support to Chinese students who have been distressed by these posters.”

A Monash University statement confirmed 23 posters were found at the Clayton Campus yesterday and removed.

“CCTV footage is being examined and the university contacted the police. The university finds any instance of racism abhorrent and we contacted student leaders to reassure them and brief them on our actions.”

Clayton police Senior Sergeant Ross Graham said police were investigating.

“We are working closely with the university to ensure that we stamp out this sort of activity,” Sen-Sgt Graham said.

He said CCTV footage revealed two people in dark hoodies putting up the posters.

“We don’t have any further information at this stage as we are continuing to investigate.”
