Put your suburb in focus as part of #SnapMelbourne

COME on, get snappy and join in #SnapMelbourne to capture and celebrate what you love about your neighbourhood.

How to snap Melbourne's beautiful buildings

GET set for a big dose of snappiness on Wednesday, November 22, when #SnapMelbourne returns for its second year with the themes of Memory Lane, Local Characters and My Family, My Home.

Almost 7000 photos were shared across Melbourne during last year’s #SnapMelbourne campaign — and it’s expected to get even bigger in 2017.

All you have to do on the day is snap, hashtag and share. Take a picture that embodies where you live, hashtag it #SnapMelbourne, then post it to Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.

Renowned landscape photographer Jenn Cooper has some rolled-gold tips to capture sensational snaps.

“Make sure you get to the spot half an hour before sunrise or sunset to get set up and watch the different lights change,” the Canon Collective ambassador said.

“Look for a shot that has something interesting in the foreground. This brings a sense of perspective to the shot. Reflections are great to bring interest.”

Ms Cooper said to think about storytelling when taking a photo and consider markets for capturing new faces and different cultures.

She said camera settings were also crucial to taking a great photo.

“If you’re just starting out, turn the camera to AV mode. This will let you play with the depth of field, in terms of how much of the shot is in focus, while the camera does the rest,” Ms Cooper said.

Nostalgia and shining a light on local characters will be a key feature of #SnapMelbourne to get your community talking, but feel free to share pics of family, pets, or anything that makes your suburb unique.
