Photos of an abandoned movie theatre at a popular Melbourne shopping centre that closed more than 20 years ago have emerged.
The old Village Cinema complex opened in 1988 and quickly became a hotspot for local teenagers with the old Timezone, Kaytees nightclub and the pool hall nearby.
As the first Village-Greater Union-Warner Bros multiplex in Australia, it screened all the classic 90s films.
It had its own candy bar and popcorn station where you could pour your own butter.
The cinema — which sits above JB Hi-fi at Knox Ozone — closed in 2002 and has remained shut off from the public completely vacant and collecting dust ever since.
Since its closure, the new 15 screen Village cinemas opened in the Ozone, and the entire centre has seen multiple makeovers.
This includes a new Zone Bowling and Timezone venue that opened on Monday.
The centre has undergone a $355m redevelopment, which has seen dozens of news stores, restaurants, basketball courts, a library and more added.
However, the entire third floor has remained inaccessible to shoppers and it is unclear what will happen — if anything — to the former cinema complex.
Knox Westfield has been contacted for comment.
