For Dan Dick, it was the death of his grandfather, Nigel, that prompted him to open his new cafe at 691 Burke Rd, Camberwell.
Named Nigel after his grandfather, he said the business paid homage to the man who had been a source of support and encouragement throughout his life as well as a lifelong Boroondara community member.
“He was an exceptional man and very special to me,” Mr Dick said.
“I’d always related to him strongly and he’d always been encouraging of me to get back into business after selling my shares in my first one, so his death (last year) was a bit of a motivator to dive back in.”
Nigel serves up great coffee, hunger busting jaffles and lots of other tasty treats baked on site, he said.

Having grown up in Camberwell himself, Mr Dick said he felt he had his finger on the pulse and knew what the locals liked.
Nigel is his second business following his first cafe, Age of Sail, which he previously owned and operated in Tooronga Village.
He also previously worked as the national sales manager for ST. ALi Coffee Roasters.
