A monster-sized park is coming to Mulgrave — and it will be one of the biggest in Monash.
Part of a Mirvac development, the 6ha park in ‘The Finale’ precinct at Waverley Park has been inspired by the surrounding lake and wetlands.

It will have six playgrounds and parks, picnic and barbecue areas with shelters, fitness stations, a boardwalk, a basketball court, table-tennis tables and a kick-about space with soccer goals.
It will also feature a skate, bike and scooter zone, as well as a rock wall and climbing area.
Mirvac residential Victoria general manager Elysa Anderson said the park was designed to inspire residents and the community to enjoy an outdoor lifestyle.
“The lake and wetlands are inspired by the heritage of the original lake offering and will be a habitat for native wildlife,” she said.
“The park has been designed in conjunction with the existing landscape to allow visitors to enjoy an active lifestyle with an interconnecting boardwalk to picnic areas, playground and sporting facilities throughout the precinct.”
Ms Anderson said Waverley Park was a site “steeped in history” and they aimed to provide “a benchmark living environment home to a sustainable community that encourages social connectivity and creates a strong legacy for the future”.
“Our hope … is that it enhances the lifestyles of residents and the broader community, as well as leaving a legacy that can be enjoyed by the City of Monash for years to come,” she said.
Construction has started on the park and it will be opened in stages, with plans for it to be completed next year.
“Waverley Park is an iconic site steeped in history which is now a well-established Melbourne community,” she said.
“In addition to the football oval, 15 per cent of the Waverley Park land is dedicated to public open space for residents and the broader community, an integrated network of already established parks weave their way through the development.
“Plus, 65 per cent of properties in ‘The Finale’ precinct will occupy park or lakefront locations, ensuring future residents will have immediate access to the natural surroundings and outdoor lifestyle.”
More than 3000 people live at Waverley Park and 400 more residents will call it home when the development is complete in 2021.
