Motorists are being warned to avoid Waverley Rd in Mt Waverley as emergency services work to control a gas leak.
The road is closed in both directions between Forster Rd and Blackburn Rd as crews work to fix the leak.
Motorists are urged to follow the directions of emergency services and avoid the area by using the Monash Freeway to the south or High Street Rd to the north.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said firefighters arrived at the corner of Waverley Rd and Anthony Drive to find a burst gas main at a construction site and quickly worked to make the scene safe.
The scene was cordoned off with the support of police and brought under control within two minutes.
There are no reported injuries.
