Most frustrating car parks in Melbourne

All commuters relate to the horror of finding a park during the peak Christmas and summer holidays period, but for some drivers, that terrible experience is year-round. Here are some of the worst car parks.

Christmas time and the summer holidays may bring out the worst drivers in already packed shopping centre car parks, but poorly designed carparks are a year round pain point for commuters.

For the notoriously bad sports on this list, going to the shops is not worth the stress of getting past the boom gates.

Here are some of the worst car parks in the state.

Westfield Doncaster

If you can wrangle the exit machine to let you out, it is likely you’ll still be stuck behind the person in front of you while they battle the boom gate at Westfield Doncaster.

Motorists who park at the centre once will opt for the few minutes extra drive to any other local shopping centre in an effort to avoid the machines.

As a bonus for disgruntled drivers, Westfield Doncaster was ranked as one of the worst in the nation for car park prangs by AAMI, meaning both your car and your sanity won’t make it out intact.

Clayton Coles

If you were confused as to why there are two almost identical Coles locations at either end of this car park, you will definitely be scratching your head about the carpark.

The deciding point as to which Coles you go into will depend on which end of the car park you can even find a space available.

The car park may be designed in simple rows, but drivers beware of cars driving in the wrong direction and motorists inability to follow the regular give-way etiquette.

When you do mange to grab your groceries, be warned of the several minute wait getting out of the very narrow and busy Cooke St.

Pacific Epping

If your burned through all your Christmas money by Boxing Day this car park is ideal for a cheap thrill.

The Pacific Epping car park near Coles has been likened to a roller coaster with the amount of potholes and dips in the bitumen.

For shoppers desperate to chase bigger highs, wait until it rains enough for the potholes to fill with water and for all Melbourne road users to lose the plot.

The thrill might even turn into an expensive nightmare for your tyres.

Wilsons Car Park, 425 Collins St

Anyone who drives a car larger than a Suzuki Swift will have difficulty navigating this car park.

Motorists enter this parking garage after the fresh horror of navigating the city’s hook turns and endless construction zones.

Upon entry they are greeted with tiny parking spaces and even tighter turning circles.

It is not unusual to spot a three, four or five point turn for larger cars to get around a corner.

Bundoora Square

For drivers who are big fans of driving in loops and who love waiting for every suburban mum in a massive SUV to reverse park, Bundoora Square is the place to be.

Several smaller car parks are littered across the square, each with their own slow moving single lane of traffic.

Drivers beware of wayward trolley pushers in the narrow lanes or shoppers who are deeply committed to walking in the middle of the road.

There are several more horror car parks in the state, including a bizarre car park with no exit in Officer.
