A ONCE-quiet Box Hill street could be crammed with 350 apartments if plans for a fourth apartment block are approved.
The booming suburb has been dubbed Melbourne’s second CBD and is home to the tallest Victorian building outside the CBD — the 115m Whitehorse Towers.
Construction is already underway on three high-rise apartment blocks in Irving Avenue Box Hill, with plans for a fourth just submitted to Whitehorse Council.
The plans are for a 15-storey building at 21-23 Irving Ave, on the corner of Shipley St, where two homes now stand.

It would comprise a cafe, 113 apartments and 121 carparking spaces.
The $25 million development would feature a curved design, reaching a peak height of 49.3m on the corner of the block.
Construction is wrapping up on a seven-storey apartment building at 19 Irving Ave, and a 10-storey building is also being built at 15-17 Irving Ave, comprising 96 apartments.
And a nine-level building is being erected down the road at 5-7 Irving Ave.
Just 250m away on Nelson St, construction is starting on a 20-storey apartment building.
Irving Ave sits within the Residential Growth Zone — Schedule 3 in Whitehorse Planning Scheme.
It’s close to Box Hill’s hospitals, shopping district and railway station.
The developer for 21-23 Irving Ave has been contacted for comment.
