Monash University unveils digital hub for music students at Clayton campus
Plans to celebrate the start of work on a digital music hub at Monash University have been cancelled due to coronavirus but the uni says the venue will be fully operational by the start of Term 2. Here’s what the hub offers.

Monash University plans to unveil a digital learning hub for music students at the start of Term 2
A planned celebration of the hub, which is being developed in an existing building at the uni’s Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, was cancelled this week due to coronavirus fears.
Students will be empowered to engage in real-time performance and learning opportunities with world-leading practitioners through the hub.
State-of-the-art technology will allow audiovisual streamings with leading music practitioners from locations across the world, globalising students’ learning experience.
A central control room flanked by two live rooms is expected to improve the studio experience for both engineers and performers.
It’s hoped the modern studio environment will also help increase teaching possibilities, while students will benefit from the creation of digital portfolios.
Head of the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music Cat Hope said the venue would help students participate in the “international exchange of knowledge and creativity”.
“It will also provide high-quality recordings for all music students, helping to position Monash as a world leader in tertiary music education,” she said.

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra deputy chairman David Li, who provided a contribution to help make the hub a reality, said: “I’m looking forward to seeing how the hub transforms music research and education at Monash, and enriches the cultural exchange between Australian and international artists.”
