A Park Orchards mum was so shocked at the amount of waste generated by baby products that she decided to do something about it.
Having two children opened Alicia Jackson’s eyes to how unsustainable the baby products industry is — nappies, wipes, wrappers, straws and endless single-use packaging — and so Marmalade Lion was born.
Ms Jackson’s business manufactures textiles for babies and children, including mats and pram liners, with a focus on reducing the amount of waste, offering alternatives to plastic, and creating a more sustainable future for the industry.
And now Ms Jackson is raising money and awareness of the work of conservation group The Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
They’ve started a Lady Elliot Island range — featuring everything from activity mats, to smocks and blankets all celebrating everything for which the reef is famous — from which $1 of every sale will go to the foundation.
“As a mother and a business owner I believe we have a duty of care to respect our environment and ensure that we leave it in good shape for our children,” Ms Jackson said.
“We are so proud of this range and would like to think that introducing it to children from such an early age will create a lasting impact in their lives.”
