Manningham coronavirus cases soar with hospitals outside municipality on standby

The number of active coronavirus cases in Manningham has increased in an alarming one-day surge.

Manningham is increasingly becoming a hotbed for new coronavirus cases following another concerning jump today.

Six new cases, including four active cases of deadly virus have emerged according to the latest figures from the Department of Health and Human Services.

It take the area’s all-time total to 71 cases, with 30 active cases now present in the community.

Manningham’s coronavirus tally has jumped by 17 cases this week, and 13 more active cases have emerged since Monday.

It has supassed neighbours Whitehorse, who recorded three new cases overnight including another active case.

Its total has jumped from 63 to 66 all-time cases, with the number of active cases in the municipality jumping from 34 to 35.

Hume remains Melbourne’s coronavirus hotspot, with 27 new cases reported overnight.

It is closing in on 500 all-time cases, with its total rising to 491, and the number of active cases in its area increasing from 235 to 251.

Manningham Council has launched a dedicated hotline, Community Connect, for residents in need of assistance during the coronavirus outbreak.

Locals feeling vulnerable, are self-isolating or need assistance in completing everyday tasks can get in touch by phoning 9840 9333 or emailing communityconnect@manningham.vic.gov.au.

The closest hospital which Manningham residents can get checked for COVID-19 is at Eastern Health’s Box Hill Hospital, which has opened a testing centre.

Eastern Health chief medical officer Alison Dwyer urged residents to monitor its website and social media pages for any updates on its services during the outbreak.

“COVID-19 (coronavirus) is like nothing our health services have ever dealt with before,” she said.

“Like all services, we find ourselves in uncharted waters and are constantly monitoring the needs of our community and making decisions in line with Federal and State Government recommendations.”

The Austin Hospital in Heidelberg is another nearby centre offering COVID-19 support services.

Anyone who suspects they might have the virus is urged to phone its dedicated hotline or use its online screening service before they come to the hospital.

It can be reached by phoning 9496 6606 from 8am to 8pm daily.
