CALLING all cheese lovers — the latest culinary addition to Box Hill Central is sure to delight.
The centre is one of only a few places in Melbourne to get a famous Hokkaido baked cheese tart.
The tarts — filled with a top-secret mix of three types of cheese — have a crunchy, shortcrust base and fluffy filling, with a cheesy aroma.
They are popular in Asia, originating from the Japanese island of Hokkaido.
Hokkaido Box Hill’s franchisee David Su said the customer feedback had been extremely positive, with many taking home more than one at a time.
“Everyone enjoys the subtle, savoury flavours of the cheese melting in their mouth,” Mr Su said.
“A lot of customers buy six tarts in a box to bring as a gift when visiting friends or family.
“We are currently making about 1,800 tarts per day and it is limited so once we sold out, that’s it for the day.
“Normally we run out of stock around 4.30pm to 5pm which a lot of customers are disappointed as they rush back from work in the city and (find they’ve) missed out,” he said.
The baked cheese tarts can be eaten at room temperature, chilled or fresh from the oven.
Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart is located on the Carrington Rd side of the shopping centre, opposite Australia Post.
There are also stores in Melbourne Central and Chadstone Shopping Centre.
