Roger Aarons, whose seven-year-old daughter attends Mandarin classes at the school, slammed the unsanitary conditions, which he said had not improved in three years.

“My issue is the general maintenance of the school which looks like something from a Third World country,” Mr Aarons said.

“It is hard not to notice the disgraceful conditions around the cafeteria and toilet areas; a large amount of liquid splatter on the exterior walls possibly due to students spitting on it; a massive amount of chewing gum material baked into the concrete floors.

“I feel sorry for the kids.”

The school has been given $10.35 million by State Government in the past two budgets to pay for a revamp.

Principal Ian Watkins said an administration block housing a first-aid space, bathrooms and mathematics and humanities building would be completed by September.

He said the English and languages other than English learning areas would be refurbished by January next year while new science, technology and art spaces, and a doubling of the existing library space and landscaping would be finished by the end of 2018.

The State Government did not respond to requests for comment.
