Firefighters are urging Victorians to dig deep from the comfort of their homes for this year’s Good Friday Appeal.
CFA brigades throughout the state are hosting a virtual tin raffle to collect donations for the appeal in support of The Royal Children’s Hospital.
Volunteers will not be collecting roadside donations this year as they adhere to social distancing and public safety due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Instead, more than 160 brigades have registered to collect donations online through a dedicated website.
People can go to the website, find their local CFA brigade, and their donations will be added to each suburb’s total.
Good Friday Appeal executive director Anne Randall said she hoped Victorians would continue their generous support for the appeal this year.
“Like every organisation across the country, we are following government directions and have sadly had to cancel many of our public fundraising events,” she said.
“However, we have also been inundated with offers of support and so we continue to fundraise online.
“To receive these messages of support and inquiries from people on how they can donate this year, makes us extremely grateful and we say a heartfelt thank you to all Victorians.”
CFA chief officer Steve Warrington said the Good Friday Appeal was a cause close to the hearts of thousands of CFA volunteers and staff across the state.
Brigades raised $1.6 million for last year’s appeal and have raised more than $34 million since they became involved.
“We are so touched by the support our members show for the Good Friday Appeal every year,” Mr Warrington said.
“I’d also like to acknowledge the incredible support shown by the Victorian community during
the recent bushfire crisis.
“We are so grateful for those who might still donate to the appeal amid the current circumstances – every little bit counts.

“We’re extremely proud to continue to support an appeal that unites us all and I’m sure our
people and Victorians will dig deep again for such a wonderful cause.”
Funds from this year’s Good Friday Appeal will go towards patient and family centred care, equipment and technology, research and leadership and education and training at The Royal Children’s Hospital.
