A former Centrelink manager who sexually violated a nine-year-old girl was convicted due to the evidence of his young victim.
Richard Jackson, 51, was sentenced at the County Court on April 8 to a minimum three years’ jail after he was found guilty of two child sex offences.
Jackson – who committed the lewd acts in 2018 – came under suspicion when his victim told her mother what he had been doing.
Jackson, from Vermont South, was arrested in July 2018.
The court heard Jackson, a father and grandfather, was a senior manager at Centrelink at the time of the offending.
Jackson quit his position in January, just before the commencement of his County Court trial, the court heard.
The young victim’s evidence was integral in the jury finding Jackson guilty of sexual penetration of a child under 12, and sexual assault of a child under 16.

A work colleague – who gave Jackson a reference at his plea – said he was “trustworthy and loyal”.
Judge Trevor Wraight said Jackson had committed “serious offending”.
Jackson – who had spent 22 days in custody – was jailed for a maximum four years and six months.
