Think you’re a fiend for dumplings? Well the ultimate way to test yourself is coming up.

Dumpling-lovers are challenged to take on Australia’s No.1 professional competitive eater in smashing 50 of the doughy balls of goodness this weekend.

The competition will be the first dumpling eating competition ever at what’s arguably Melbourne’s dumpling epicentre, Box Hill Central.

The first person to beat Cal ‘Hulk Smash Food’ Stubbs to eat — or inhale — the megapile of dumplings is set to win a $500 voucher to the restaurant hosting the event, Kitchen Republik. But it’s definitely not going to be an easy feat, even for the Hulk.

Competitive eating has been Cal’s full-time job for more than four years.

His Instagram profile declares he is the no.1 Australian Pro Competitive Eater, and he’s ranked 10th in World All Pro Eating, having won 405 competitions across 17 countries.

He’s previously smashed a cheesecake-eating record by downing 5.3kg of the dessert in 30 minutes.

But that hasn’t been his largest meal.

The Hulk devoured 7.2kg of food in 45 minutes last year.

He reckons it will take him just two to three minutes to eat the 50 dumplings.

Hulk Smash Foods normally prepares for competitions, but he doesn’t think this relatively small task will require much training.

He shared the secret that most competitive eaters stretched their stomachs by ‘water loading’ over long periods of time.

On occasions, he has drunk up to 8.2 litres of water to expand the size of his stomach.

But he warned readers shouldn’t try this at home.

“I wouldn’t recommend anyone do it,” he said.

The Hulk said the process was very dangerous, with the human body struggling to process just 2.3 litres.

He and his fellow pro-competitors have gradually built up their body’s intake over months and years.

Anyone willing to take on the dumpling race in Box Hill should email boxhillcentral@vicinity.com.au, explaining in 25 words or less why they think they can beat Hulk Smash Food.

Based on their answers, at least 20 people will be selected to compete in the eat-off.

Entries will be accepted until 5pm on Wednesday, June 19.

The competition will take place on Saturday, June 22 at noon at Kitchen Republik in Box Hill Central.
