TWO sets of twins have got coaches and fans unable to believe their eyes at Donvale Football Club this year.
Emily and Sara Miller, and Jess and Zoe Perna, have impressed — and at times confused — in the Magpies’ first year in the Eastern Football League’s senior women’s competition.
Born after her sister, Emily has been dubbed “junior” by teammates, while Sara gets called “senior”.
A former basketballer, Emily plays in the ruck and has been earning a reputation as a fierce competitor and excellent team player.
Sara, who’s a bit shorter than her sister, normally plays on a half-back flank and is considered to have a strong defensive mindset and be very consistent.
Coach Clint Martin said they had developed a strong rapport with teammates in their first season.
“It’s both girls’ first year playing senior women’s football. On a funny note, some of the girls in the team don’t believe they are twins due to their different physical characteristics,” he said.
Identical twins Jess and Zoe moved up from the under18s competition last year.
“It’s quite amusing seeing the opposition trying to figure out that there are actually two identical twins on the field,” he said.
“They are very competitive between one another and play a similar style of game.”
Martin said both sets of twins “were a joy to coach”.
“They lead by example and recognise the areas they can improve to help themselves and the team,” he said.
