Christmas shoppers are on notice, after more than 100 motorists were hit with parking fines in streets around Chadstone during the Black Friday sales.
Stonnington Council confirmed between Friday and Sunday last week, about 120 fines were issued by council officers, the majority to drivers parked in the residential permit zone without a permit.
Council officers regularly conduct patrols in streets around Chaddy and will continue to monitor drivers over the Christmas trading period.
Parking restrictions are in place in the surrounding streets to protect the amenity of local residents and to restrict the overflow of parking by shopping centre customers.
There were also reports of shoppers using the nearby Chadstone McDonald’s carpark during the Black Friday sales, but the council is not responsible for enforcement in that carpark, and didn’t issue any fines there.
McDonald’s also confirmed no parking fines were issued in the restaurant’s carpark, on the corner of Dandenong Rd and Chadstone Rd, over the weekend, but reminded shoppers the carpark was available to McDonald’s customers only.
Chadstone centre manager Daniel Boyle said it was proud to offer Australia’s third largest carpark with 10,000 free car spaces.
Mr Boyle said this time last year Chadstone added 850 new car spaces to Carpark A, on the corner of Dandenong Rd and Chadstone Rd.
He said for best parking this festive season, shoppers should head to that carpark, near David Jones.
Black Friday also heralded the return of the Chadstone Tourist Shuttle, a free return bus service between Federation Square and Chadstone’s Visitor Lounge.
A direct free bus service between East Malvern train station and Chadstone will also return this Christmas.
The service will run one hour before trade and one hour after trade starting Saturday December 17 until Monday December 26, with 10-15 minute frequency runs.
Mr Boyle said with more than 900 weekly bus services, dedicated rideshare drop off zones, and premium valet parking, there were lots of options for shoppers wanting to visit Chadstone.
He encouraged shoppers to plan ahead and shop early in the week between 9am to 11am for the most enjoyable experience.
Half a million visitors were expected to visit Chadstone during the week-long Black Friday sales.
Mr Boyle said across the Black Friday sales period Chadstone traffic officers and VicRoads support were on hand to guide visitors to the best available parking while ensuring a good flow of traffic to and from Chadstone.
He said their presence can be expected at other busy days over the festive period, including Boxing Day.
