Yet another high rise apartment tower has been proposed for Box Hill’s Hospital and TAFE precinct, in the same street where a 36-storey apartment building has just been approved.
Richfront Capital Pty Ltd has applied to build a 17-storey tower in place of the two single-storey houses at 26-28 Wellington Rd.
If given a permit, it would be the seventh apartment building approved in Wellington Rd since 2011.
It would host 108 apartments – five one-bedroom, 85 two-bedroom, 14 three-bedroom, four four-bedroom – and would have communal spaces on the ground and the 16th floor.
A cafe was also planned for the ground floor, while 106 carparking spaces would be located in a basement, along with 40 bicycle spaces, in line with planning requirements.
The building would have a stepped design to lessen the view of its upper levels.
Directly to the south of the 1470sq m site, a permit has been issued for a 14-storey apartment building to go up in place of a single-storey houses at 16-22 Wellington Rd.
An application to build a 28-storey building at 14 Wellington Rd has also been filed with Whitehorse Council, which includes plans for a 200-unit retirement village, cafe, restaurant and medical centre.

A 36-storey apartment building is set to go up less than 250m down the road, on the corner of Wellington and Whitehorse roads at 843 Whitehorse Rd after it was approved by the council last week.
Box Hill is in the midst of a development boom, with more than 30 towers having been approved in its centre since 2011.
This week the council has also begun advertising a request to build an eight-storey office tower at 21 Ellingworth Parade.
