A 90-year-old Warrandyte man will have his licence reviewed by VicRoads after he lost control of his car and crashed into traffic lights in Blackburn.

Nunawading highway patrol Sergeant Webb said the man was driving his Kia Cerato along Surrey Rd at 11.10am yesterday when the crash happened.

Sgt Webb said the man had gone to turn right into Whitehorse Rd when he lost control of his car and collided into traffic lights.

He was taken to Box Hill Hospital for a check-up. The crash caused major damage to his car.

Sgt Webb said the man would not face charges but VicRoads would be asked to do a licence review on his ability to drive.

Nobody else was involved in the crash.

Meanwhile a cyclist came off second best with a car after a crash in Blackburn South.

Sgt Webb said the 24-year-old man was not wearing a helmet and had no lights on his bike when he was riding his bike down Middleborough Rd at 5.45pm on June 21.

The cyclist changed lanes and collided into a Toyota Corolla being driven by a 20-year-old Bayswater man.

The cyclist rolled onto the bonnet of the car, hit the windscreen and fell onto road.

He suffered a broken leg and was taken to The Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Sgt Webb said the Corolla driver was not at fault as he was unable to see the cyclist because it was dark and he had no lights on his bike.

The cyclist will be spoken to by police.

“The moral of the story there is get some lights on and wear a bike helmet,” Sgt Webb said.

She suffered a broken her leg and was taken to the Peter James Centre in Burwood East.

She will be spoken to by police at a later date.
