Aspiring lawyer allegedly caught stealing from Myer Chadstone

An aspiring lawyer in the final year of her university degree may be forced to kiss her career dreams goodbye after she was allegedly caught stealing from Myer at Chadstone.

A law student is preparing to have the book thrown at her after she was allegedly caught red-handed stealing brand name goods from her employer.

The sticky fingered 23-year-old wannabe lawyer was arrested at work in Chadstone Myer on Saturday June 1 following an alleged seven-month ruse that saw her net $20,000 of designer clothing, electronics and homewares.

Detective Senior Constable Samantha Russell said the shop assistant, who was in the fifth and final year of her law degree, had been buying goods on the department store’s website since October and then processing an in-store return during her work shifts.

The items included a laptop, jewellery, clothing, jackets worth $1000 each, perfume and high end kitchen goods

But she allegedly failed to return any of the items, walking away with them and the cash until management cottoned on to her ploy and called Prahran police.

Sen-Constable Russell noted the student was “extremely remorseful” for her actions.

Police investigations continue and the woman is expected to be charged at a later date.
