A FORMER Mazenod College student has added a dose of star power to the college’s biggest day of sport in recent memory.

Fox Footy’s AFL 360 co-hosts Gerard Whateley and Mark Robinson filmed a preview video for the college’s Founders Day 50th Anniversary sports carnival on Saturday.

Whateley was in the class of 1992 and has previously supported functions for Mazenod Old Collegians football club.

The two-minute video, which did not air on Fox Footy, features Whateley previewing clashes for the college’s football, soccer and volleyball clubs, while Robinson holds up each team’s jumpers.

Whateley never played football for the Mulgrave-based college, but proudly wears the jumper at the end of the video.

“I fill it well, don’t I?” he remarks.

“If it didn’t rain so often, I would have played in Year 12. “

Robinson then suggests he “should have taken the shirt off and shown those guns”.

Mazenod College spokesman Nick Lew Ton said the carnival’s organising committee reached out to Whateley who was happy to lend his support.

He said Whateley got into the spirit of the event by mentioning the college’s motto, ‘Leave Nothing Undared’ during the video.

“Gerard’s always been a willing participant in helping out the college when needed, and being such a great sports presenter, he’s the best person to have promoting our event,” he said.

“He hit the nail on the head in terms of promoting the day itself and the college’s values.”

Saturday’s carnival is expected to attract more than 2000 spectators and will feature Mazenod Old Collegians, Mazenod United FC and Mazenod Volleyball Club playing at home on the same day for the first time in the college’s history.

A special lunch featuring Melbourne Victory legend Archie Thompson and two other past students, Western Bulldogs premiership player Matthew Boyd and former West Coast Eagles star Ashley Hansen, has also been organised.
