Doing she calls the most joyful job in the world, Tiffany Selzer has been named Victoria’s Newborn Photographer of the Year.
Photographing three to four babies a week, she has run Tiny and Brave, a Montmorency family and newborn photography studio out of her home for the past 10 years.
“I just love people, I love the joy I get from making people laugh, and spending time talking to babies is so fun,” Ms Selzer said.
Ms Selzer said it was a complete and utter surprise to win the 2019 EPSON Australian Institute of Professional Photography award.
She submitted four images to the competition; the most time-consuming was baby Declan — a four-hour shoot with 50 hours of editing time.
She created a collage of more than 700 photos of Declan, arranging them to represent his aboriginal heritage.
“I’m incredibly proud of this piece and grateful to Declan and his family for allowing me the privilege of creating something I am so excited about,” she said.
Ms Selzer was drawn to photography at an early age, studying it in school but never thought of it as a career choice.
It wasn’t until her middle child was aged one she realised she didn’t want to go back to admininstrative work, instead turning to bubbly babies.
“It’s so rewarding, people cry happy tears seeing photos of their baby for the first time. I’m giving them something that will last a lifetime,” she said.
“There’s a lot of tickling and so much personality in every baby, even if they’re a few days old.”

Her favourite shoot was her sister’s two newborns, knowing the struggles her sibling went through to have children.
“I get goosebumps just thinking about it,” she said.
The next step for Tiny and Brave will be a new commercial studio, due to open later this year.
