Duo facing various finance-related charges front court in Melbourne for committal mention

The once high-flying boss of a finance house and his director mate face charges relating to the alleged misuse of $1m in customer funds.

The once high-flying boss of finance house Berndale Capital Securities and a former director facing various charges are back before court next month.

Stavro D’Amore and former Berndale director Daniel Kirby appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court via audio visual link on Tuesday for a committal mention.

They are due back on November 17.

D’Amore is facing charges related to the alleged misuse of as much as $1m in customer funds while operating the trading house.

They include five charges of dishonestly using his position as a director and five counts of dishonest conduct in the course of operating a financial services business.

Kirby is charged with offences relating to his dealings at the trading house.

The charges were laid by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission in late May.

No pleas have been entered by the defendants who are both on bail.
