Meet Victoria’s four-legged hopes in the Cobbers Challenge — the search for the hardest working farm dog in Australia and New Zealand.

Livestock farmer Dan McInnes and his pup Jack and livestock contractor Cloe Latty’s kelpie Jazz will fight it out over the next three months against 10 other working dogs for the crown.

Mr Mclnnes got his kelpie Jack when as an eight-month pup, and put him to work on his 1011ha cattle farm almost immediately.

“I picked him up when he was about eight months old and after a bit of training he’s been working ever since,” he said.

“He’s actually my number one dog at the moment, which is quite good for a two an half year old”

“I’ve got a team of dogs and definitely my top dog”

Mr Mclnnes reckons Jack has a hunger for work.

“I reckon he averages around 100km a week which works out to about 5500km over the whole year,’’ he said.

“On a day like today we started at about quarter to eight to move my cattle around, which was the first day of tracking him and he’s already up 14km just in the first few hours of the morning.”

Meanwhile, Jazz is hard at work for Ms Latty in the Willaura in the state’s west.

Ms Latty said Jazz was an incredibly reliable pup and she couldn’t do her job without her four-legged mate.

“I can use her for everything, she’s ways there she’s always easy to use, and she’s got a great personality too,” she said.

“Jazz helps me every aspect of getting my job done, I couldn’t do it with out her.”

The dogs are tracked via GPS, with points allocated on how far they travel over the season, and includes most distance covered in one day and fastest times, with winners to be announced in October.
