Commuters are facing half hour delays after a nasty collision involving a truck on a major city freeway, causing traffic to stack up for kilometres.

Commuters are facing half hour delays getting to the CBD after a morning rush collision on a Melbourne freeway.

Emergency services responded to a truck versus car crash in West Melbourne about 8.30am on Wednesday.

It’s understood there was no emergency transport or treatment was required.

Two left lanes are closed inbound on the CityLink-Tullamarine freeway just before Dynon Rd, West Melbourne exit, with traffic pushing back till Bell St in Brunswick.

A Department of Transport spokesman said motorists can save time by exiting early using Mt Alexander

Rd or detour through coburg and Brunswick and come down Sydney Rd.

Motorists are also urged to consider exiting the freeway early at Flemington Rd to reach the CBD.

Two lanes are open with speed set at 40km/h and delays are building rapidly, the VicTraffic app said.
