A Melbourne chiropractor accused of raping and sexually assaulting female clients during consultations has been committed to trial in County Court.
Dr Ian Maxwell Deitch, the former director of Chirolife in Rosanna, is facing nine charges of sexual assault including three counts of rape.
Following a four-day commital hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court, Magistrate James Henderson ruled on Tuesday that there was sufficient to commit Dr Deitch to trial.
The chiropractor pleaded not guilty to all the charges following the commital hearing and he’s on bail to appear in County Court on April 24.
Dr Deitch had indicated at an earlier appearance in August last year that he would contest the charges, which relate to three women.
Dr Deitch allegedly sexually assaulted the women between 2013 and 2021, including digitally penetrating and touching their vaginas without consent.
Charge sheets state the chiropractor also allegedly touched a woman’s breast and nipples, rubbed his clothed erect penis on her head and kissed her without consent.
The prosecution called Queensland-based chiropractor Robert Bailey as a witness who told the court on Tuesday that digital penetration of vagina was well outside the scope of practice of chiropractors.
It was more for obstetricians and gynaecologists and that there was no reason why chiropractors should do that, he said.
Dr Deitch owns and operates Markwell Nutrition which sells magnesium supplement Colozone Plus.
