Talented dancers and performers have been preparing for a busy couple of weeks in Victoria for the calisthenics dance competitions of 2023.

Hundreds of competitors and their families have flocked to venues including the Besen Centre in Burwood, the Karralyka Theatre in Ringwood, the Bendigo Ulumbarra Theatre, and will head this week to the Bunjil Place Theatre in Narre Warren.

Competitors performed at the Ulumbarra Theatre from Wednesday, September 20 – 24.

Calisthenics Victoria chief executive officer Jennifer McIntyre said the competition spanned the school holidays.

“It’s a pretty full on day and night schedule,” she said.

The calisthenics clubs competing include Bentleigh, Berwick, Cranbourne, Florincey, Diamond Creek, Kallara, Larinda, Sovereign, Warrandyte, Blackburn, Ceres, Fusion, Jayde, Joulle, Westcoast, Altona, Boronia, J’Adore, Narre Warren, Pentland Roselind, Aria, Doncaster, Findon, Glenroy, Merinda, Rich River, Wingrove, Carwen, Newport and Ocean Grove.

The competitions will finish up at the Palais Theatre in St Kilda on October 1, where the CaliChamp Seniors will perform.

“This is our most elite and prestigious competition with 200 performers and approximately an audience number of 2700,” a Calisthenics Victoria spokeswoman said.

The spokesperson added there would also be a number of volunteers, coaches and clubs that would be recognised for their hard work and contribution.

The Herald Sun will be attending the competitions to take pictures of the performers and spectators supporting them and everyone is welcome to get involved.
