Young Kennington man dies following horror Kerrie car crash

Police have identified a young man who died in hospital after a horrific crash south of Bendigo.

A young man has died after his car smashed into a tree at Kerrie, a small town between Melbourne and Bendigo.

Leading Senior Constable Melissa Seach said a 22-year-old Kennington man died in hospital, 20 days after a horrific single-vehicle crash.

Sen Constable Seach said the young driver was in a ute that was travelling along Cherokee Rd, Kerrie at 8.15pm on Friday 23 July when he lost control and crashed into a tree.

She said he was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and was airlifted to hospital where he later died.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

Sen Constable Seach said appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash or who had dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.

His death brings the state-wide road tally to 136 lives lost so far this year.
