The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A man has died in hospital two weeks after a horror crash on the Pyrenees Highway, 50km south of Bendigo.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Madelaine Burke said a 77-year-old Wheatsheaf man had died after a single-vehicle crash at Newstead.

Ms Burke said his Mitsubishi Verada sedan was travelling east along Pyrenees Highway when it was believed the driver lost control of the vehicle, hit a power pole and crashed about 4.15pm Friday July 16.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was taken to Bendigo Health for treatment.

On Thursday police confirmed the 77-year-old had died.

Ms Burke said Bendigo Police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Wheatsheaf man’s death brings the state’s fatal road tally to 123 deaths this year.
