The Melton Fire Brigade captain says he is proud of his team having won both senior and junior and state firefighting championships at the weekend.

The event was held in Mooroopna, in the state’s north, across two weekends for the second year across two weekends this month.

Melton captain Justin Rees said it was an “amazing achievement” and a testament to his team’s hard work.

“They train two times a week, they’re constantly competing around the state, they’re disciplined and committed,” Mr Rees said.

Melton’s junior and senior teams scored 94 and 82 points respectively.

Meanwhile, The Kangaroo Flat brigade — senior division winners last year — tied for second place in this year’s senior competition.

In section B, Werribee won the senior division with 64 points while Swan Hill and Kangaroo Flat tied for second.

For the juniors, Drouin came in second, with Kyneton a close third.

The championships, almost 150 years old, are held to improve efficiency and training and prove the endurance and reliability of the various teams across the state.
