An alleged murder at a Kangaroo Flat motel will make collecting DNA a “complex proposition”, a defence lawyer has said as a 25-year-old man fronted court for the first time
As Matthew Koutsou, 25, appeared before Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with murdering 49-year-old Bendigo man Marc Pettersen, his defence lawyer revealed they would be contesting some of the prosecution’s case due to the “nature” of the crime scene location.
Police allege Mr Koutsou, of Kangaroo Flat, stabbed Mr Pettersen in the face and chest at the Calder Family Motel on Saturday about 10.30pm after the two got into a fight.
Mr Pettersen died at the scene of his wounds.
It is believed the men were known to each other.
Mr Koutsou had “remained mute” in dealings with police and corrections since his arrest, the court heard.
The matter was adjourned to April 30 for committal to the Supreme Court, with CCTV footage and DNA evidence to be tendered in the interim.
