A spiteful Bendigo man who stalked and tormented a woman, creating fake pornographic images, told a court he had learnt his lesson in prison.
Luke Brooks, 32, pleaded guilty in Bendigo Magistrates Court on Monday to 62 criminal charges including stalking, distributing intimate images of a woman, and breaching bail.
Between July and November Brooks committed “repeated, sustained and prolonged” stalking and harassment against the woman, sending her “abusive and threatening” messages.
The court heard Brooks’ stalking and harassment culminated in the creation of false accounts and emails to distribute images online of the woman superimposed onto pornography, which Magistrate Russell Kelly said took “some planning”.
Mr Kelly said the 32-year-old’s offending would have had a significant and traumatic impact on the victim.
The man’s lawyer, Mr Brown, said the offender “wasn’t thinking about the consequences of his actions” while he was trying to hurt the woman, but has since come to “deeply regret” the harm he caused after spending 82 days remanded in custody.
Mr Kelly said this was Brooks’ first offence, and found he had good chances of rehabilitation.
He sentenced Brooks to six months in prison, with time already served on remand.
The man will be released back into the community on a 24-month Community Corrections Order.
