A Bendigo family including three young children were forced to flee their home before it was gutted by fire on Tuesday morning.
Long Gully’s Anthony Davis, his partner and their three children — aged seven, six and three — were inside when the blaze started at 8am.
They were eventually saved by firefighters but Mr Davis said all his family had left could fit in their car.
Mr Davis’ partner’s car was also destroyed and while his car was saved, the keys are lost in the burnt-out Humbolt Dr home.
Six hours after the blaze Mr Davis was covered in ash as he and his mates attempted to salvage what’s left of his ruined home.
“Everything is gone … it’s f —ked,” he said.
“(But) you’ve got to have a sense of humour.
“We’re all safe … there wasn’t a cremation today.”
The blaze tore through every room of the family’s home, with black ash covering the windows.
All that was left were a few brightly coloured toys scattered in the ashes.
A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesman said crews were called to the house fire at Humbolt Dr and Strata Ct, Long Gully at 8.11am.
“Crews quickly entered the fully involved single storey brick house to look for occupants and suppress the blaze,” he said.
“All five occupants were evacuated with several placed into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics.”
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said two adults and three children were assessed at the scene but were not taken to hospital.
The blaze was under control at 8.35am and the scene was handed to the Department of Health and Human Services.
