Kyabram man Connor McManus, 26, charged at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court with rape, kidnapping and assault
An accused Kyabram rapist and kidnapper told a court he had not spoken to his lawyer because he was “too autistic” to take public transport.

An accused Kyabram rapist and kidnapper who allegedly assaulted a woman multiple times including on Christmas Day told a court he had not spoken to his lawyer because he is “too autistic” to take public transport.
Kyabram man Connor McManus, 26, faced Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with more than 30 charges of rape, sexual assault, kidnapping and unlawful assault against at least one woman.
Police allege in court documents McManus raped, sexually assaulted and forced the woman to engage in sexual acts against her will in January 2020.
Police will also allege McManus beat the woman on multiple occasions and unlawfully imprisoning her against her will.
McManus allegedly raped woman on multiple occasions and sexually touched her by groping her thigh, her vagina and kissing her neck and lips.
Mr McManus was charged in November 2023, but Central Victoria Sexual Offences and Child-abuse Investigation Team brought further historic rape charges against Mr McManus in January this year.
He is further charged with raping and sexually assaulting a woman on multiple occasions in Wangaratta in 2015 and on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day of 2018.
He is also charged with raping a woman on three occasions at Dandenong in 2016 between January and June.
In court on Wednesday Mr McManus asked for an adjournment because he had not spoken to his lawyer,
Mr McManus told Magistrate Trieu Hunyh he had not seen his lawyer because his car was “irreparable” and was “too autistic to take public transport”.
Mr Hunyh told Mr McManus he would need to get over his aversion to public transport and instruct his lawyer so his case could proceed before granting an adjournment to April.
