A Bendigo woman allegedly rammed a car carrying two young children during a meth-fuelled road rage incident, a court has heard.

Kiera Josephine Emond, 36, faced Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury.

Emond was allegedly driving “erratically” and “at speed” in the Drysdale area on January 28 when she crashed her Hyundai Getz into a parked car on Clifton Springs Rd, before carrying on along High St.

Police allege Emond then noticed a black Ford Territory driving behind her and became “annoyed”, deciding that the car was “following her” and stopped her car in the middle of High St with the passenger and drivers side doors open, blocking the road.

The complainants, a couple with their children, aged one and five, in the back who had been driving behind Emond parked their Territory in a driveway, attempting to avoid Emond, police told the court.

Emond allegedly then did a U-turn, followed them into the driveway and rammed her Hyundai into the right rear drivers side of the Territory where the two young children were seated.

A blood test allegedly revealed methamphetamine in Emond’s system, and she allegedly told police she had been smoking “a bit of meth” with a friend she was visiting in Portarlington.

The accused drug driver also allegedly told police she had been driving erratically and at speed for at least 30 minutes prior to allegedly ramming the family.

She allegedly told police if she had known there were young children in the car she would not have rammed them.

Magistrate Dominic Lennon said the matter was serious enough to be heard in the County Court and called on the defence to justify why it should not be committed to the higher court.

Emond’s lawyer will argue that Emond was having “some kind of mental health crisis” at the time of the offending, and asked for the matter to be adjourned for the defence to gather material to make their case.

Update: On February 26, 2025 Kiera Emond was jailed for one month to be immediately followed by a 12 month community corrections order. Her licence was disqualified for 12 months.
