People living in Bendigo suburbs plagued by slow internet will soon enjoy faster speeds.
About 34,000 residents and 7700 businesses across the state, including in Bendigo suburbs, will have faster speeds with rollout to begin next year.
The government will lay more than 1000km of fibre across the state.
Be. Bendigo CEO Rob Herbert welcomed the news.
“The upgrades are going to improve everything for business, for home connectivity, there are a range of benefits,” Mr Herbert said.
“Anything that will speed up connectivity is a positive thing and it further reinforces the benefits that people are seeing in moving to regional Victoria.”
Mr Herbert said it would encourage people to live in Bendigo.
He said patience would be needed with the rollout expected to take a “couple of years”.
“This roll out is a couple of years in the making. From my knowledge, connection commencement won’t kick in until next year and then rollout the year after,” Mr Herbert said.
Bendigo East MP Jacinta Allan said residents in Elmore, Kangaroo Flat and Kennington would enjoy the faster speeds thanks to the Victorian Government’s partnership with NBN.
