Former Lockwood South pub Happy Jacks Emporium for sale or lease

A Bendigo property that used to generate $60,000 a week and is now a collectibles sales yard has hit the market hoping to “revive its former glory”.

A former hotel and road stop for sale in Bendigo could "revive its former glory” as one of several sorts of establishments, as its current owner sells collectibles from what is currently a sales yard.

Happy Jacks Emporium at 748 Calder Alternative Highway, Lockwood South has been listed for sale or lease.

The 270 sqm property, built as a pub in the 1860s, contains two offices, a restaurant and bar area, commercial kitchen, cellar, and cold storage.

A property listing said the 4715 sqm land had a “rich history”, having previously generated $60,000 a week as a hotel, cafe, and cellar door.

Now, however, it hosts “collectibles, wares, and historical pieces” and could, the listing said, “revive its former glory as a cafe, bar, petrol station, or sales yard”.

The sale is for a vacant possession at $1.2m.

Reg Holliday has operated Happy Jacks Emporium for about six years and continues to sell collectibles from the land, primarily trucks and cars.

He said his plan was always to have Happy Jacks be a licensed premises but that he was now moving on from the property.

Mr Holliday said the land would do well as any number of venues, including a cafe, transport or tyre yard, petrol station, and more.

“I can’t believe that you’ve got a place for $1.2m that hasn’t been snapped up,” he said.

“It’s just imagination what you could put there. It would just kill the pig out here.”
