The shock death of a young Echuca man has left the Murray River town reeling.
Nathan Taylor was on Friday being remembered for his “infectious positivity, boundless energy, and unwavering dedication” to his community following his shock death as a result of a river accident earlier in the week.
The young concreter was a valued member of the Echuca CFA and Bamawm Extension Fire Brigade.
“We are heartbroken and in shock at the loss of such a bright and inspiring young man,” the brigade posted on social media.
Mr Taylor transferred to the brigade from Echuca CFA in November 23 and quickly made an impression.
“His infectious positivity, boundless energy, and unwavering dedication made him a valued part of our team,” the brigade posted.
“Nathan was always ready to lend a hand no matter what, no matter where, embodying the true spirit of CFA.”
He made history as Bamawm Extension’s very first participant in the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb in 2024, placing in the top 10, and also helped the brigade team take first place in the NSW State Championships.
Mr Taylor also made his mark on the footy field and cricket pitch.
Echuca United Football Netball Club described him as one of the “most genuine and kind-hearted individuals” to walk through its doors.
“Nathan’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit touched so many lives, and he will be greatly missed,” the club said.
Player Liam Guinan paid tribute to Mr Taylor’s persistence in making the senior team after stuggling to find his feet on the field as a junior.
“I remember always getting behind him while he had a whistle or drink bottles in his hand as he struggled to find a spot in the under 14’s at the time,” he posted.
“Cheeky little grin that signalled to me that he was just gonna keep showing up, no matter what.
“You can learn a lot from kids with that kind of heart. I know I did.”
Echuca South Cricket Club also shared memories of a young Nathan when he was “tearing it up with the bat” in 2014.
