A neighbourly spat over lawn mowing allegedly turned into a vicious street brawl, culminating in a “dog sh*t shovel” attack.

Cody Judd, 32, faced Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with recklessly causing injury after an argument over lawn mowing allegedly turned into a vicious street melee.

Police alleged in court Ms Judd came outside and “started yelling abuse” at her neighbour on March 24 about 10.30am on Porter Ave, Maryborough.

The neighbour told Ms Judd “f--- off and go inside”, but she allegedly continued to yell abuse at him, the court heard.

Police allege a co-accused allegedly came outside, walked over to the man, allegedly put his hands up and said “I’ll bash you”, with the neighbour calling him a “dog”.

Ms Judd then allegedly kicked the neighbour, before he punched her co-accused in the chin, knocking him over.

The co-accused and the neighbour started “swinging fists”, before Ms Judd ran back to their house and grabbed a metal “dog poo scraper”.

She allegedly ran back and swung the “poo scraper” in the chest, cutting him while her co-accused allegedly continued to punch the neighbour.

The couple then walked back to their house, and neighbours came outside with “knives” to stop the fight from continuing, the court heard.

When she was later interviewed by police, Ms Judd allegedly said “he was the one who was mouthing off from across the road, bloody mowing lawns”, the court heard.

“As soon as he looked over at me and saying ‘I’ll kill you Cody’ straight away,” she allegedly told police.

“I don’t know what his beef is, I didn’t do anything … I was out the front having a cigarette and he started aerating, saying he was going to put a bullet between my eyes.”

Ms Judd then “gave him the finger” and told Mr Stewart about the neighbour and “things got a bit out of control”.

She allegedly told police she hit the neighbour with the “dog sh-t shovel” because he had Mr Stewart “on the ground” and she was trying to defend him.

Magistrate Russell Kelly indicated that he would sentence Ms Judd to a community corrections order if she pleaded guilty, stating she needed help with her drug use.

The matter was adjourned to Tuesday, July 2, so she could be assessed for a therapeutic community sentence.
