Christopher Cayzer pleads guilty to crash that fatally injured Kyneton man Colin McKimmie
A 75-year-old driving with his wife to walk their dog died after a meth addict fleeing police slammed into their vehicle at a Kyneton intersection.

A drugged-up speeding driver fleeing police veered into the wrong lane and hit another car, causing fatal injuries to the 75-year-old man behind the wheel.
Kyneton resident Colin Arthur McKimmie died seven weeks later from complications as a result of the crash on Beauchamp St on January 14, 2023.
Heidelberg West man Christopher Cayzer on Tuesday pleaded guilty to a raft of driving offences, including culpable driving causing death and recklessly causing injury.
The Bendigo County Court heard the Holden Commodore utility the unlicensed 40-year-old was driving was unregistered and had fake registration plates.
Cayzer was on bail on assault charges at the time.
Methamphetamine was detected in his blood following the crash and a small amount of the drug was recovered from the Holden Commodore.
Mr McKimmie had to be freed from his Ford Territory and flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries while his wife and front seat passenger Wendy was also injured in the crash.
A prosecution summary of the facts stated that Cayzer failed to stop during a police pursuit after he was clocked doing 122km/h in an 80km/h zone on Edgecombe Rd about 4pm on January 14, 2023.
Police abandoned the chase and Cayzer then entered a roundabout in the wrong direction, mounted a traffic island on Beauchamp St and slammed into the driver’s side of Mr McKimmie’s vehicle.
Mr McKimmie and his wife were on their way to the Campaspe River to walk their dog.
Wendy told police neither she nor her husband knew what had happened as they tried to exit their car.
She recalled Mr McKimmie pleading with people to get him out.
Defence lawyer Mark Sturges said Cayzer was deeply remorseful for his actions and had written a letter of apology to Mr McKimmie’s family.
Cayzer was a regular ice user and paid a high price for his decision to run away from police, he submitted.
Cayzer will be sentenced on August 14.
